Olympic Academy of Ukraine
The Olympic Academy of Ukraine (UAU) was established on 20 September 1991 in accordance with the decision of the First Session of the UAU in accordance with the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee to promote the development and strengthening of the Olympic movement in our country, spiritual enrichment of people, and the exchange of national culture values under the sign of the ideas and principles of Olympism. The UAU is an independent public organisation and operates under the auspices of the NOC of Ukraine.
The main tasks of the UAU are:
- Comprehensive study, popularisation, development and dissemination of Olympic ideals and principles, humanistic values of Olympism, the Olympic Movement and the Olympic Games, promotion of mass sports and physical education among the population of Ukraine.
- Comprehensive promotion of physical, moral and spiritual improvement of the individual in the international sports movement in the name of strengthening peace, friendship and cooperation between the peoples of all countries of our planet.
- Supporting the actions of all progressive forces fighting for the unity of the Olympic movement, against political, racial, national, religious or any other discrimination in Olympic sport.
- Promotion of the ideas of Olympism as one of the most effective means of attracting citizens to the ideals of goodness, peacekeeping, healthy and happy lifestyle.
- Promoting the participation of Ukrainian specialists in the activities of the International Olympic Academy, scientific symposia, congresses and conferences, international sports federations, unions and associations, Olympic congresses and other events held by the International Olympic Committee.
- Participation in the organisation and conduct of research and educational activities, dissemination of scientific information based on the results of scientific developments on Olympic topics.
- Representation of the Academy and protection of its interests in the IOA, as well as international contacts and foreign economic relations on sports issues.
- Participation in the organisation of training, retraining and advanced training of specialists in the field of physical culture and sports.
- Establishment of regional branches of the Olympic Academy of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, regions of Ukraine, and the cities of Kyiv and Sevastopol.
The Olympic Academy of Ukraine is created on the principles of individual and collective membership.
The governing bodies of the UA of Ukraine are the Session, the Executive Committee and the President. The supreme governing body of the UA of Ukraine is the session, which is convened once a year. The Executive Committee is the executive and governing body of the UBA in the intersessional period. The President of the UAO is elected for a four-year term at a meeting of the UAO Executive Committee and delegated to the Executive Committee of the NOC of Ukraine.
The working language of the UA is Ukrainian, and the official languages of the IOC are used in international meetings.
